![]() ![]() Took a quick look at the last version comparing 50%sat 50%lum VS dynamic. Projector and htpc is now back in business in my new home. Glad to see you made some progress during my absence. But I'm not going to watch new content (that I haven't watched yet) until I'm happy with what pixel shader produces something I'm happy with.Īs I said, I'll try to look at other titles (including BvsS as you seem happy with that one) with content above 2000nits when I can and I'll report back here if I see any unwanted effects. It not because I only report issues in one title that it's the only title I'm checking. I also did some tests with Pacific Rim, The Revenant and The Shallows, but because the highlights do not go as high as with Mad Max I have little to report (expect some clipping in one shot in Pacific Rim). I don't do experiments when I watch a film for the first time, and I have little time to watch new titles at the moment, so I went back to those I had already identified. As I explained, it's just that Mad Max is a title that I know well, so it's one of my go-to titles to check highlights. I know that a custom curve only changes white gamma, but that might be why it doesn't produces the unwanted artifacts that pixel shader produces when encountering titles mastered in a way that doesn't produces valid values.ĭo you agree that the new screenshot looks more like an explosion than the first one?ĭo you agree that there is still enough detail in the highlight to make the shot look realistic (and not a botch of clipped color)?ĭo you agree that not seeing blue on Furiosa's nose is more correct than seeing a path of blue on it?Īnyway, I'm not going to discuss Mad Max anymore because if is true (and I'm inclined to believe you) that it is a poorly mastered title then it doesn't make sense to waste time trying to get a single exception to look right.īy the way, I don't only use Mad Max. Maybe it's because MadVR tries to manipulate color that we have these issues. It might be that by wanting to be correct MadVR is too clever for the content we have and the displays we have (both are far from perfect). This doesn't mean it's impossible, simply that I didn't come across it. If I had ever seen a bright red light or a strawberry turn yellow, I would not be happy, but the fact is that I never have seen such artifacts with custom curves. It's just the yellow that is replaced by white. It looks like desaturation to me, not hue shift. Second I'd have to look, but I don't think a custom curve turns red into yellow. You see a flash of color, it looks like an explosion, that's more important to me than to have more highlights detail in a monochromatic picture. In a flash of explosion, as long as there is *some* detail in the highlight and it's not entirely clip, I think it's much better to retain what makes the explosion look like an explosion that keep the luminance detail at the expense of saturation. As I said many times, as I have no more than 200nits, I know I can't reproduce all the detail, so I'm happy to hard clip content at 4000nits and live with the consequences. I generally enjoy French cinema, but they were following Hollywood steps lately producing junk after junk like this one or “Tu veux… ou tu veux pas?” for example….One Wild Moment 2015.Click to expand.First this is what a custom curve does. I though he was not bad in The Untouchables. Unbelievable for a famous actor like him. All actors were really bad, but François Cluzet was the worst. ![]() No character depth, I didn’t connect or relate to the characters at all. I didn’t even make it half way through before it almost put me to sleep. A very annoying, phony, stupidly written and directed One Wild Moment 2015. I can’t believe how bad this movie is and how bad François Cluzet, George Bush look alike in it. Stars: Vincent Cassel, François Cluzet, Lola Le Lann.
